Peter Kovats, MD, MPH

Dr. Kovats joined the AMAS clinical staff in October 2022 after serving a 28-year career in the USAF, initially as a Family Practitioner and the last 22 years exclusively in multiple assignments in Aerospace Medicine as a squadron flight surgeon, Chief of Aerospace Medicine, Squadron commander and multiple deployments in CENTCOM, Iraq and Afghanistan. Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, he is a graduate of Kent State University and Northeast Ohio Medical University (formerly Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine) in 1991.

Dr. Kovats completed a Family Practice residency at Akron General Hospital and subsequently joined the USAF in 1994, worked as a family practice doc for six years and went on to become a flight surgeon for the 81st Fighter Squadron in Spangdahlem, Germany supporting multiple deployment and humanitarian relief operations. Dr. Kovats completed a residency in Aerospace Medicine (RAM) and Occupational Medicine in 2006 and has had numerous command and senior physician assignments in U.S. Special Operations, AF Materiel Command and U.S. Air Forces in Europe. He has had numerous joint assignments, culminating at the Naval Aviation Medicine Institute at NAS Pensacola, Florida, working closely with thousands of Navy and Marine Corps aviators as well as a broad multi-disciplinary medical staff that included Neurology, ENT, Psychiatry, Neuropsychiatry and Internal Medicine. Dr. Kovats has accrued over 800 rated flying hours in numerous airframes from all services, in peacetime and combat and has spent over 20 years of his career advocating for pilots and aviation safety.
